GYARU- Le basics

Gyaru, basically means "gal" in Japanese. And it can be a noun or an adjective for a makeup style and a fashion style.
(btw there's a sub category that's called gyaru-o but that's for later >:D)

After being in this for 1-2 years now, i think the most typical kind works towards creating dolly looks, with like big eyes, rosy cheeks and slightly defined face shape.
Not the super defined ones like western face shapes-- some of their faces seem to be like carved cos it's super defined.

And who better to start with than with the queen of gyaru herself- Tsuabasa Masuwaka! <3

popteen (famous magazine for gyaru references) model queen--kumikki!!!

きれいですね?

I think I was introduced to gyaru by my friend (a taiwanese) and i guess when i saw these photos I was like.. OMG. MOTHER GOD. THERE IS A PERFECT WAY OF MAKEUP FOR ASIANS.

IMMA SO GONNA LEARN IT.

I think other people might think that's it's so fake and so doll like and creepy and wutevar. But it‘s like the only makeup (i know) that actually can suit asian eyes perfectly, without making it look awkward and whatnot like..

ok fine. it looks damn awkward to me lah.
but, but U SEE ZE DIFFERENCE?
ok going out of point.
But anyway, it's not just about the makeup only- although that's like the most important part- it's also about the hair-

*JELLY*

The clothes- ok that's too broad, but generally it's something like this
Jelly (quite an important gyaru magazine, although some people don't see it as gyaru... ah wtf. nv mind- it. is.)

the nails

Gyaru is pretty big in Japan. K no, REALLY BIG.
I think there's the culture again of like male>female  and females usually have to appear appealing and cute and docile (?). And the "kawaii" thing is just like the most spoken word in japanese or something- if they see something they like, they automatically go like- "可愛い!”

Like if they saw a dog, a cute item, a phone, a picture, a person or a microwave that they like, they'll kinda be like "omg! 可愛い!!” and spaz.
Haha.

And Gyaru, like Japanese, is sort of a complex concept because you have the really natural kind and the ones that are really extreme but they are all gyaru. there are differences in makeup, style, hair, nails etc.

On the left wing of Gyaru makeup, there is the all (relatively) natural kind:

there's also the fair-skinned gyaru and the tanned gyaru (which is the origin of gyaru actually)

fairskinned gyaru

tanned gyaru

they both look pretty good, but it's just that the fair skinned gyarus look more sweet and delicate, while the tanned ones can look more cool and sexy (to an extent~)

and a more extreme style

GANGURO

These are the right wing of Gyaru.
Ganguro is really quite extreme- sort of like decora for gyaru, or maybe it is also a form of decora...o_o
Ganguros go for lots of deep tanning and have like reaallyyyy heavy makeup and they seem to be the most wild and loose side of gyaru. The typical gyaru that we recognize nowadays has evolved for many years from the tanned gyaru and ganguros that were formed as a mode of self expression.

If you really really want to get into the style of gyaru, it  can not only be a kind of fashion- it can also become a form of lifestyle.

Of course, there is also many more aspects to gyaru, but this is like a crash course for those who are chanced upon this or those who don't know about gyaru or those who want to know or those who are too lazy to read through wiki~
haha~

てか(teka= btw or ynoe),
in relevance to Singapore, the Jap culture is also growing- recently, there has been more cosplay events (i'm not wrong right?><), more recognition for cosplay.

ONE OK ROCK CAME TO SINGAPRE OMFG!!!!!!!!!!! >:DDDDD (will be up on another post)

And for gyaru, Shibuya Gals was launched, Dolly wink & Tsuabasa Masuwaka-sama! came to Singapore (just a few days ago for a fashionxmakeup contest) (which i missed.....T_TAGRHHH). Also , there was the JCosmeland, JFashionrunway, Collect Point (pop japanese brands together in wisma isetan), launch of popular jap brands <3 like Lowrys Farm, Dip Drops, ICB and Rosebullet etcetc. (other events i don't know about ><''''')
